If you’ve been looking for work recently and have been doing casual work in the process you’ll understand where I’m coming from with this today. Today I received a call to do a whole week worth of work. For all those students you would hear a giant “Ca-Ching!” but all I heard was “uh oh!”
I already had a commitment for one day out of five possible days of work. What would you do here in this situation? Some may go “woohoo work!” and take the five days running. However all I could think of was honoring the commitment I had already made and to trust in the Lord. Sometimes it isn’t about the quantity of things that we do or have but rather the quality – actually who am I kidding, its always about the quality I would think. Our actions define us and we should step out and do our best. As Christians we are told to do the following:
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
– Matthew 5: 14 – 16
Even in honoring our commitments we glorify our Father in heaven. Honor those plans you have made, even those coffee catch ups that you’d rather not go to so you can lie in bed for another half an hour on a lazy Sunday. Be the light of the world in even small things and go for quality actions rather than a large quantity.
